The hatred is palpable.

One by one, scowling faces file into the silent, government sterile waiting room. Hurried glances, fearful eyes. Five hundred of us, all hungry, all lost, all competing for the same government meal ticket, each of us knowing the slavery the winner faces, each of us feeling the hunger that four hundred and ninety-nine of us will take home with us today.
